About Debjani
Art has been the compass of my life, guiding my journey from the bustling theatre halls of Kolkata in the 1980s to studios and galleries across the world. At Padatik, collaborating with legends of theatre, I discovered how movement, light, and space could tell stories without words. My path then led me to work with village artisans; Madhubani painters, tribal artists, and block printers' where I learned the patience, precision, and reverence of centuries-old craft.
Since 2000, I have been painting and exhibiting my work in India, Dubai, and the United States, most recently at the Art Expo 2025 in New York City. My creations; spanning watercolours, mixed media, oils, and acrylics, are defined by strong, passionate colors and heavy textures, reflecting emotion and depth.
The ‘Dancers’ series captures energy and rhythm drawn from theatre and classical dance, while the Benares series evokes the spirituality, vibrancy, and life along the ghats. In Elemental Abstractions, I translate the energy of earth, water, fire, and air into visual poetry.
Each piece is a dialogue between tradition and innovation, memory and imagination, inviting viewers to experience the stories, textures, and colors that shape my artistic world.
